What is Powder Coating?

Powder Coating is a type of coating that is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder over an electrostatically charged product. That dry powder is then baked at a specific time and temperature, creating a hard finish that is tougher and longer lasting than conventional paint. With a variety of durabilities and almost infinite number of finish choices, there’s nothing powder coating won’t cover!

Do you sandblast?

Yes! We sandblast all items before they are coated. We strongly believe in this process, as it provides the best adhesion of the powder to the metal. This gives your product a longer lifetime protection from breakdown and rust.

Is Powder Coating more environmentally friendly?

Yes! There are a variety of factors that allow powder coating to be better for the environment than aerosol paint. Here’s a great brochure from our vendor, IFS coatings, with great information.

How long does powder coating last?

In general, powder coating lasts much longer than conventional painting.

What company do you use for powder?

Do you use a primer?

For all exterior products (fencing, gates, furniture, etc) we use a zinc-rich primer with super durable top coat. This process (along with sandblasting) gives the product a 15-20 year rust prevention. Both the Zinc-rich primer and super durable top coat provide maximum UV protection. What colors are available for exterior products?

While virtually any color can be made into a super durable powder, an in stock color will be less costly and a quicker turnaround time. Here are the in stock super durable colors we use: Architectural Digital Color Card. If one of these colors don’t suit your needs, we can always use a super durable clear coat over a regular powder.

What colors are available for interior products?

Regular powders (aka RALs) are available in an almost infinite number of colors. This can be overwhelming to choose from! Here’s a Digital Color Card of in stock IFS Coatings colors. Please note, these colors are all rated at a full gloss. For exterior use, we can use a super durable clear coat over these finishes.
